Information to help you decide, at your own pace.
What is 72 Hour Golf?
72 Hour Golf is an Australian online auction platform that buys and sells golf equipment and merchandise. We own every item listed on our site — from brand-new clubs, bags, and apparel to pre-owned and ex-demo equipment sourced directly by our team. There are no third-party sellers on 72 Hour Golf.
Every auction runs for exactly 72 hours. The highest bid at close wins the lot at that price plus the buyer’s premium. It is a fast, transparent way to buy quality golf gear at genuine market prices.
How do I create an account?
Registration is free and takes under two minutes. Click Register to Bid on the homepage and provide:
- Your full name and email address
- A secure password
- Your delivery address
- A valid credit card for payment
Once registered you will receive a confirmation email. Click the verification link and you are ready to bid immediately.
Is it free to register and browse?
Yes. Registration and browsing are completely free. You only pay when you win an auction — the hammer price plus the buyer’s premium and shipping. There are no membership fees or subscription costs of any kind.
How does the 72-hour auction format work?
Each lot goes live with a countdown timer set to exactly 72 hours. Registered bidders can place bids at any time during this window. The highest bid when the timer reaches zero wins the lot.
ANTI-SNIPING PROTECTION: If a bid is placed in the final 5 minutes, the auction automatically extends by 5 minutes to give all registered bidders a fair chance to respond. This continues until no bids are placed within the final 5-minute window.
What kinds of items does 72 Hour Golf auction?
We auction a wide range of golf equipment and merchandise that we have purchased and own outright, including:
- Clubs: Drivers, fairway woods, hybrids, iron sets, wedges, putters
- Bags: Cart bags, stand bags, carry bags, travel covers
- Apparel: Shirts, trousers, shorts, waterproofs, footwear, caps and hats
- Accessories: Rangefinders, GPS devices, gloves, balls, training aids
- Collectibles: Signed memorabilia, limited-edition releases, vintage clubs
Every item is inspected, described, and photographed by our team before listing. We do not operate as a marketplace — everything on 72 Hour Golf is owned and sold by us.
How do I place a bid?
Once logged in, open any live auction lot and enter your maximum bid in the bidding field. Your bid must be at least the current minimum increment above the current high bid. Click Place Bid and confirm — you are in.
Our autobidding system will bid on your behalf up to your maximum, only increasing when someone else bids against you. You do not need to monitor the auction actively.
What is autobidding and how does it work?
Autobidding (proxy bidding) lets you set the maximum you are willing to pay. The system bids incrementally on your behalf — you will only ever pay one increment above the next-highest bid, not automatically your full maximum.
Your maximum bid is always kept strictly private. Other bidders only ever see the current high bid, never your limit.
TIP: Set your true maximum upfront. If you are outbid you will receive an immediate email notification, giving you the opportunity to increase your bid before the auction closes.
What are the bidding increments?
Increments are scaled to the current lot value:
- Up to $50 — $2 increments
- $50 to $200 — $5 increments
- $200 to $500 — $10 increments
- $500 to $1,000 — $25 increments
- $1,000 to $5,000 — $50 increments
- Over $5,000 — $100 increments
How will I know if I have been outbid?
You will receive an instant email notification whenever you are outbid on a lot you are actively bidding on. You can also add any lot to your Watch List to receive price-change alerts and closing reminders even before placing a bid.
Manage your notification preferences under My Account > Notification Preferences.
What does 'reserve not met' mean?
Some lots carry a reserve price — the minimum amount we are willing to accept. If bidding closes below the reserve, the lot does not sell and no charge is made to any bidder. Reserve prices are confidential. You will see a ‘Reserve not met’ indicator on the lot page while bidding is below the threshold, which changes to ‘Reserve met’ once the reserve is exceeded.
Can I withdraw or retract a bid?
Bids on 72 Hour Golf are binding irrevocable offers and cannot generally be retracted once placed. This protects the integrity of the auction and all participating bidders.
In exceptional circumstances — such as a clearly erroneous bid caused by an obvious keying error — contact us immediately at support@72hourgolf.com. Retraction requests are assessed individually and must be submitted before the auction closes. Repeated retractions may result in account suspension.
Is there a buyer's premium?
Yes. A buyer’s premium of 15% (inclusive of GST) is added to the hammer price on every lot. This is clearly displayed on each lot page and in your payment summary at checkout. No additional charges are added beyond the hammer price, buyer’s premium, and shipping.
EXAMPLE: Winning bid $400. Buyer’s premium 15% (GST inclusive) = $60. Total before shipping: $460.
What payment methods are accepted?
We accept:
- Visa and Mastercard (credit and debit cards)
- Bank transfer (EFT) — funds must clear within 3 business days of auction close
American Express, PayPal, and cash payments are not accepted. For lots over $5,000 we may require bank transfer only.
Will I receive a tax invoice?
Yes. A full GST tax invoice is automatically emailed to your registered address once payment is confirmed. All past invoices are accessible under My Account > Purchase History.
How does GST apply to my purchase?
72 Hour Golf is a GST-registered business. All amounts quoted — the hammer price, buyer’s premium, and shipping costs — are inclusive of GST where applicable. Your tax invoice will separately itemise the GST component of your total purchase.
When do I need to pay?
Payment is due within 3 business days of auction close. You will receive an email with payment instructions and your tax invoice immediately after winning. Most buyers pay by credit card at checkout, which processes instantly. Bank transfer payments must clear within the 3-day window or your order may be cancelled.
What shipping options are available?
We ship Australia-wide using:
- Australia Post: Standard tracked service for most items
- Direct Freight Express: For bulky or high-value items requiring signature on delivery
Shipping costs are calculated based on item size, weight, and your delivery postcode. The exact cost is shown at checkout before you confirm payment. Most orders dispatch within 2 business days of payment clearing.
Do you ship internationally?
Not at this time. 72 Hour Golf currently ships to Australian addresses only. We are working on international shipping options and will update this FAQ when available.
Can I collect my purchase in person?
Yes. Local pickup is available from our warehouse in Sydney by prior arrangement. Select ‘Local Pickup’ at checkout and email support@72hourgolf.com to schedule a collection time. Collection is free but must occur within 7 days of payment. Proof of identity and your order number are required at pickup.
How do I track my order?
Once your order is dispatched you will receive an email with:
- Tracking number
- Carrier name (Australia Post or Direct Freight Express)
- Link to track your shipment
Most orders arrive within 3–7 business days depending on location. You can also view tracking details under My Account > Orders.
What if my item arrives damaged?
72 Hour Golf takes full responsibility for transit damage. If your item arrives damaged:
- Do not discard packaging
- Photograph the damage and packaging clearly
- Email photos and your order number to support@72hourgolf.com within 48 hours of delivery
We will arrange a replacement or full refund including shipping costs. You will not be disadvantaged by carrier mishandling.
What is your return policy?
72 Hour Golf operates as an auction house. All sales are final once payment is made. Returns are only accepted where:
- The item is materially different from its lot description or photographs
- The item is faulty or defective in a way not disclosed in the listing
- The wrong item was shipped
Change of mind returns are not accepted. Buyers are encouraged to review lot descriptions and photographs carefully before bidding and to contact us with any questions before auction close.
What if the item is not as described?
If you believe an item does not match its lot description, condition rating, or photographs, you have the right to dispute the sale under the Australian Consumer Law. To initiate a dispute:
- Notify us in writing within 28 days of auction close, describing the specific nature of the dispute
- Return the goods to our facility within 14 days of that notice, in the same condition as received
- Our team will assess the goods and advise of our determination within 5 business days of receipt
If the dispute is upheld, we will set aside the sale and refund your full purchase price including buyer’s premium and outbound shipping costs. Your claim is limited to the amount paid — we do not accept liability for consequential loss beyond the purchase price.
A dispute will not be upheld where the lot description and photographs accurately reflected the item’s condition at the time of listing.
What is 72 Hour Golf's legal status?
72 Hour Golf is a retailer that sells its own goods by online auction. We are not a marketplace, agent, or intermediary. We own every item listed on our platform and sell directly to buyers as principal.
This means the full suite of Australian Consumer Law (ACL) guarantees applies to every purchase. As a buyer you are entitled to the following statutory guarantees:
- Acceptable quality — goods must be safe, durable, free from defects, and acceptable in appearance and finish
- Fitness for purpose — goods must be fit for any purpose we have represented, or any purpose you made known to us before purchase
- Match description — goods must correspond to their lot description and photographs
- Clear title — we guarantee we own the goods and can transfer full unencumbered title to you
- Undisturbed possession — your ownership of goods you purchase will not be interfered with by any third-party claim
Because 72 Hour Golf owns all goods it sells, you have the full protection of the Australian Consumer Law — including the right to a remedy for goods that are not of acceptable quality, not as described, or not fit for purpose. These rights cannot be excluded or limited by our auction conditions.
When does risk in the goods pass to me?
Risk in a lot passes to the buyer at auction close when you are confirmed as the winning bidder. From that point you bear the risk of loss or damage, except where such loss or damage is caused by 72 Hour Golf’s negligence while goods remain in our custody and before dispatch.
Once handed to our carrier (Australia Post or Direct Freight Express), transit risk transfers to the carrier. We manage all transit claims on your behalf and will not leave you without a remedy where goods are lost or damaged in transit.
What is the legal status of lot descriptions?
All lot descriptions, condition ratings, and photographs are prepared honestly and to the best of our knowledge at the time of listing. Condition descriptions for pre-owned items represent our assessment at the time of inspection and are not warranties of the precise condition of every surface or component.
72 Hour Golf is bound by the Australian Consumer Law prohibition on misleading or deceptive conduct (ACL s.18). We will never knowingly publish inaccurate descriptions. Where a description is found to be materially inaccurate, your full ACL remedy rights apply.
What bidding conduct is prohibited?
The following conduct is unlawful under Australian law and strictly prohibited on our platform:
- Shill bidding: Placing or arranging bids to artificially inflate prices
- Dummy bidding: Placing fictitious bids to create a false impression of demand or competition
- Collusive bidding: Any arrangement between bidders to suppress, limit, or manipulate competitive bidding
- Strategic bid manipulation: Retracting bids for competitive advantage rather than genuine error
These practices are prohibited under the Australian Consumer Law and applicable state fair trading legislation. 72 Hour Golf will report suspected fraudulent bidding conduct to the ACCC and relevant state consumer protection agencies. Offenders face account suspension, legal action, and potential civil and criminal penalties.
What are the consequences of not paying after winning?
A winning bid is a binding contract of sale. If a buyer fails to pay within 3 business days of auction close, 72 Hour Golf may, without further notice, exercise any of the following remedies:
- Charge the buyer’s nominated credit card or payment method on file for the full outstanding amount — by registering on 72 Hour Golf you authorise this charge in the event of non-payment following a winning bid
- Cancel the win and relist the lot without further notice
- Charge interest on the unpaid amount at 2% above the Reserve Bank of Australia cash rate from the payment due date
- Issue legal proceedings for the purchase price, interest, costs, and damages for breach of contract
- Recover all reasonable costs including legal costs on a full indemnity basis
- Suspend or permanently terminate the buyer’s account
